If Sex Is Painful…

Many women suffer in silence thinking, they are the only ones living with the painfulness of Sex. According to the National Health and Social Life Survey, about 15 percent of women experience Painful Sex. "There is no reason whatsoever for a woman to have painful sex. If a man were having sex and was in pain, do you think he'd keep going?" If you experience pain during Sex, it doesn't necessarily mean there is something medically wrong with your body. Medical fraternity has spelt out some explanations and some common reasons why Sex is Painful and what you can do to treat the problem yourself. Aging and Menopause According to Dr Shashi, aging & menopause collectively are one of the major factors for pain. She states that when women are pre-menopausal, the vaginal walls get thinner and as a result, the vagina doesn't lubricate well. Intercourse can cause swelling, a burning sensation, may be with irritation also. Suggesting use of a water-based lubricant during Sex, she said, or application of estrogen cream into the vagina will relieve the pain. Ovulation In the middle of your cycle, when you ovulate and release an egg, your ovary becomes enlarged and tender. During intercourse, pushing against the ovary can cause a sharp pain. Stress We lead such stressful lives. If we are tense for reasons of the day's activity, Sex can be painful and unrewarding. Medicos suggest that the lady partner should try to relax herself through meditation before sex. Leading sexologist, Dr Suprabhat maintains that a prolonged foreplay before intercourse helps the lady to relax naturally. Birth Control Pills and Contraceptives Birth control pills and progesterone-only contraceptives can decrease your desire for Sex and affect vaginal lubrication. For such cases, consult your physician about your prescription. Vaginal Dryness If this is your problem, then application of water-based lubricant is highly recommended.
